DIABETES Flashcards
Incretin mimetics (GLP1 agonist)
Exenatide (bydureon), liraglutiide (victoza) semiglutide (ozempic) dulaglutide (trulicity)
-cause weight loss, decrease hgba1c by 1%; increased beta cell growth, decrease glucose emptying and gluconeogenesis
Liraglutide (victoza), semaglutide (ozempic) and dulaglutide (trulicity)
Have shown to decrease CV risk; good for obese patients failing meds
DPP4 Inhibitors
sitagliptin (januvia), saxagliptin (onglyza has potential CHF risk), Linagliptin (tradjenta) and alogliptin (nesia) ; dPP4 inhibits glp1; good in CKD especially linagliptin
Amalyn analogues
Pramlanitide (symlin) slows gastric emptying, decreases glucagon secretion, weight loss, early satiety
SGL2 inhibitors
canagliflozin (invokana), dapagiflozin (farxiga), emagliflozin (jardiance) –> blocks reapsorption of glucose by the kidneys increasing glucose excretion in the urine
Dapagiflozin (farxiga)
Shown to reduce HF hospitalizations and exacerbations
Empagliflozin (jardiance) and canagliflozin (invokana)
Reduce incidence of ESRD and hospitalizations due to HF; decreased CV deaths
