Q

List the various parts of the long bone and their functions.

A

Epiphysis:
- contains red bone marrow for blood cell production
- absorbs shock
- provides support

Epiphyseal Plate:
- critical for growth

Diaphysis:
- The shaft of the long bone
- allows blood vessels and nerve supply to the bone
- has yellow marrow that stores fat

Metaphysis:
- Mix of compact and spongey bone
- contains epiphyseal plate during childhood
