Remaining with the pound sterling would be beneficial, May struggle to join NATO if there is UK opposition, May also struggle to join the EU, Couldn’t have an open border with the UK.
What are arguments for and against the English Question?
For: It solves the West Lothian question as English MP’s control over English affairs, Would create federalism in the UK which would give more power to devolved assemblies, laws passed in Westminster will only apply to England.
Against: Imbalance would be created as England is much larger than other nations, some argue that it would lead to further devolution as regionalism may increase, more elections.
What are the arguments for and against elected regional assemblies?
For: Allow for the creation of region specific policy by experts, Less pressure on Westminster, may quell regionalist sentiment in communities with growing independence movements.
Against: Erodes the power of Westminster therefore undermining parliamentary sovereignty, different tax rates can create confusion, Local assemblies may start to demand more power, less tax revenue for government.
