Wales second lockdown 2020
Wales had the devolved power to enforce a second COVID lockdown -firebreak- in October 2020, which cut cases and deaths, something the rest of the UK didn’t do.
Good Friday agreement
1999, the agreement to end the Troubles and the start of NI power sharing government between Republicans and Loyalists.
Levelling up
Reducing inequality in regions of the UK by additional funding to help social and economic state. Example: connecting midlands north and rest of England with HS2.
ESIF
European structural investment programme - pre brexit in place to help levelling up. Not there anymroe
UKSPF
UK shared prosperity fund - money given to constituencies to help their growth and interconnection. Can however be unfair - Conservative constituencies upwards of 1 billion pounds when Labor constituencies got less than 500 million pounds. Depends on party in power
Gender recognition bill
A 2022 bill meant to be passed by Scottish parliament,, but was not passed due to Sunak saying no. This showed parliamentary sovereignty - was meant to amend the Gender Recognition act of 2004 and make it more easy.
EVEL and repeal
English votes for English laws, when passed it was meant to prevent unfairness when Scottish and Irish MPs voted on English laws such as Sunday trading hours. Repealed in 2020 suspended and 2021 abolished in HoL for being too complicated and not working
Scotland independence referendum 2014
Turnout 84.6% - people really cared, and results were no 5v%, yes 45%. In 2022, proposed another SIR but denied by UK parliament and Supreme Court - the first referendum was pre BREXIT, when the Scottish wanted to stay (62% vs 38%) so this UK was not what they chose to stay in.
