  • Stalin split with Bukharin in 1928
  • used his influence as General Secretary to prevent Bukharin from attending important meetings
  • e.g. 1 time forced Bukharins plane down twice for medical checks - missed Central Committee meeting and opportunity to extend influence

  • 1928 Stalin circled rumours he was forming alliance with Z & K
  • to prevent this - Bukharin organised meeting with Z & K
  • Stalin revealed secret meeting to Central Committee - Bukharin accused of Factionalism
