Hypophora
consists of raising one or more questions and then proceeding to answer them, usually at some length. Common form is to pose a question at the beginning of a paragraph and then use the rest of the paragraph to answer it
Parenthesis
consists of a word, phrase, or whole sentence inserted as an aside in the middle of another sentence. Dashes are often used to create this
Apostrophe
interrupts the discussion or discourse and addresses directly a person or personified thing, either present or absent. Main purpose is to vent or display emotion.
Rhetorical Question
A question that is not answered by the writer, mainly because the answer is obvious or obviously desired. The answer to this type of question is usually yes or no
Onomatopoeia
the use of words whose pronunciation imitates the intended sound they make
Alliteration
The repetition of consonants at the start of consecutive words
Assonance
The repetition of vowel sounds in consecutive words with different consonants
Neologism
A new word, expression, or usage
Aposiopesis
Stopping and leaving a sentence unfinished
Appositive
a noun or noun substitute placed next to (in apposition to) another noun to be described or defined
Anacoluthon
finishing a sentence with a different grammatical structure from that with which it began
