Gestation
-period of time between conception and birth when the baby is growing in a mother’s womb
Gestational Age
-used to describe how far along the pregnancy is
-measured in weeks
-first day of the woman’s last menstrual cycle to the current date
-38-42 weeks = normal
-<37 weeks = premature
Chronological Age
-the amount of time that has lapsed from birth to a given date
Adjusted Age
-a premie’s chronologic age minus the # of weeks or months early they were born
-calculated for babies born before 37 weeks
-no longer calculated after child has reached 2 YO (chronologic age)
-months always equal 30 days
Physiological flexion
-tightness in full-term babies’ bodies, provides some stability as they learn to move in an environment with gravity
-spine: C-shaped
-UEs: flexed, IR
-LEs: flexed, ER
-hip flexors and lower abs are very tight
-increased kyphosis
-increased muscle tone
