A
- every health supervision visit
- compare child’s development to expected milestones
- 6 components:
1. Elicit parent’s concerns
2. Obtain developmental history
3. Observe child

A
- supplements surveillance to identify subtle risks for developmental delays
- valid, standardized screening tools
- AAP recommended intervals and when concerns arise

- fine motor

- social and emotional skills

Red Flags by 3 Months
A
- social-emotional: No social smile, no eye contact, flat affect
- cognitive and speech: no turn to voice, no coos or squeals, no visual tracking
- gross motor: asymmetric movements, hyper/hypotonia, doesn’t raise head when prone
- fine motor: fists, no hand to mouth, feeds more than 45 min, hourly feeds
- less than 1lb per month, HC not increasing or decreasing >2 SD, suck-swallow problems, difficulties with sleep wake cycles
