From intermediate mesoderm.

What is horizontal folding?
A
The lateral folds of somatiplueric which covers the amniotic fluid comes down and closes the umblicus and during this, the intermediate mesoderm there makes a ridge where a tube is placed called urogenital ridge. Have 2 parts
Outer part; nephrogenic cord
Inner: urogenital cord.

3 sets of kidneys are made.
the pronephros ( only provide place where kidney has to be developed),
the mesonephros only functions for 4 week, and
the metanephros the final kidney.
