What are the first two stages of Rostow’s modernisation Theory?
- Traditional Society- Technology is limited. Lots of people work in subsistence agriculture. No profit made
- Preconditions for take- More workers in low tech manufacturing. Farms make profits and new infrastructure built
What are the 3rd and 4th stages of Rostow’s Modernisation theory?
- Take off- Mass manufacturing. Exports are now increasing. Banks and services now set up.
- Drive to maturity- Sustained growth where new technology is used. Consumer goods now common
What is the final stage of Rostow’s theory?
- Age of mass consumption- People buy goods
What is the difference between GDP per capita and HDI?
GDP per capita- A measurement of development in the country.(Standard of living)
HDI- The Human Development Index is a mix of indices that show life expectancy and knowledge
What is the difference between Birth Rate and Fertility Rate?
Birth Rate- How many children are born
Fertility Rate- How many times a woman has intercourse
What is the difference between Population Structure and Life expectancy?
Population Structure- How many males and females of different age groups are in the population in each place.
Life expectancy- How long the average person is expected to live.
