What are development indicators? Give examples.
The UN uses development indicators to measure how a country is improving. These include economic indicators, such as GDP or PPP; and social indicators, such as literacy rate and access to safe drinking water.
What is demographic data?
All data linked to population, such as birth rate and death rate.
Give examples of demographic indicators.
Birth rate, death rate, dependency ratio, fertility rate, infant mortality, life expectancy, and maternal mortality.
What is maternal mortality?
The number of mothers who die whilst giving birth.
What are the five stages of Rostow’s Theory?
- Traditional society
- Pre-conditions for take off
- Take off
- Drive to maturity
- Age of high mass consumption
What is globalisation?
Globalisation is the ways in which countries become increasingly connected to each other.
What is an emerging country?
A country with high to medium human development, and recent economic growth.
