North America has the lowest number of people living in rural areas because the majority of jobs are in the tertiary sector which can be spread across different areas.
How rapidly is the urban population in developing countries increasing?
It is increasing by around 2.3% every year. This has been happening since 2000.
What are Alpha ++ cities?
Cities where their influence and importance is bigger than the size suggests.
What is a world city?
A city that trades and invests globally, like London and New York.
How many people are estimated to live in urban areas by 2050?
6.3 billion people
What is the difference between formal and informal economies?
Jobs in the formal sector are documented by the government and people with these jobs pay taxes.
Jobs in the informal sector are undocumented jobs, and people with these jobs often do not pay taxes because the government doesn’t know their job exists.
What is suburbanisation?
The movement of people from the inner suburbs to the outer suburbs.
