Q

how does education affect development

A

less educated people will be unable to get good jobs and the economy will be worse

skilled workers will move to more developed places and cause a brain drain

HOWEVER

more skilled workers = more services which can bring money in thru trade and investment

educated people earn more and pay more taxes, so more money for development

Q

how does colonialism affect development?

A

colonised countries are ones that are ruled by other countries

this means that when they go independant they have a lower level of development than if they had never bloody been colonised

much of africa was colonised by european countries in 19th century

they removed raw materials

africa became dependant on them

leading to famine and malnutrition

Q

educational
consequences of global inequalities of money

A

poorer countries cant afford to invest in education as much

poorer people cant afford school fees

(as a result kids may have to work instead of education)

this lack of education means people cant get good jobs in the future

Q

environmental problems of global inequality

A

people cant afford fuel and they get firewood, which = deforestation

factories = local pollution

also, developed countries have factories in developing ones, like pandabuy

finally, they cant afford eco technology so the vehicles used have more emissions

16
Q

explain rostows theory

A

level of economic development changes over time

living standards improve too

LEVELS:

TRADITIONAL SOCIETY
like farming and fishing

PRECONDITIONS FOR TAKEOFF
manufacture develops. infrastructre built

TAKE OFF:
rapid and intensive growth
large scale indstrialisation

DRIVE TO MATURITY:
people get wealthier
standards of living rise
widespread technology

MASS CONSUMPTION:
lots of trade
goods mass produced
high consumption

17
Q

explain franks dependency theory

A

alternate view to rostows theory on why countries are more developed than others

poorer countries get poor cuz they depend on richer ones

poorer get poorer and rich get richer

18
Q

why do the poor stay poor

A

they get crops/raw material

they need to import good from other countries

they buy goods and sell their materials

the goods are expensive to buy but they sell materials cheap

never ending cycle cuz they cant pull away
