Development And Impotance Of Self-concept Flashcards
What is self-esteem:
Involves self-confidence and self-acceptance.
Higher self-esteem = more optimistic, better relationships , better attachments (babies).
Development of self-esteem:
Infancy:
0-18months- build self-esteem by having their basic needs met. Babies become aware of being loved as their primary caregiver provides comfort, care , support and attention. This shows the infants they are safe and secure.
18m-2years- every time they learn a new skill they realise what they can achieve, and learn what they look like and where they belong.
If infants aren’t shown live they will find it difficult to develop sense of self-worth and value of themselves.
