Starts with primitive nRBC, makes embryonic Hgb as well as alpha Hgb chains

6 weeks gestation
Produces mainly RBCs, but starts on granulocytes, monocytes, and megakaryocytes
Hgb F (alpha and gamma) mostly

Myeloid/medullary phase
A
5th month of gestation
Bone marrow makes granulocytes, M:E getting close to 3:1
