What are the historical reasons for the development gap growth?
Most poor counties were once taken over or colonised by European countries who wanted raw materials. It started friendly and small for slaves, tobacco etc. And then Europe got greedy and took over their trading partners by force. They took raw materials from them and sold them finished goods. This made Europe rich. They were forced out eventually but left countries with little or no industries, education or skills and a great deal of unrest.
What are the environmental reasons for the development gap growth?
This is to do with the natural environment. Some countries have few natural resources to trade and get money for development (some deserts have oil). The climate can make life difficult eg. Rainfall being unreliable so it’s hard to grow crops. Some have too much rain and so severe floods. Years of hard work gets washed away.
What are the social-economic reasons for the development gap growth?
This is a combination of social and economic reasons. (Social is the way we live, economic is to do with the way we live and money/ earning a living). Many poor countries have wars with so much money wasted in fighting eg Syria. They have few industries so have to import most manufactured goods they need. Most have borrowed the money and so the money they earn goes to pay back loans.
What does interest mean?
Interest is money charged (on top of the original borrowed amount) or the privilege of borrowing that money.
