A

they agree the distribution of aid to differnent sectors in developing countries

however, EU priorities health over banking, showing that aid doesn’t actually fund development

16
Q

top down projects to help developing countires develop

- job opportunities (40,000)
-debt (1.3 billion)

17
Q

bottom up projects to aid developing countriess

A

small scale water heaters in India
- decreases CO2 emissions by 3 tonnes a year
decreases expenses by 30% for families in India
-does not meet large scale hot water needs in an industrial setting

18
Q

2 geographical features of Tanzania?

A
  1. central eastern africa
  2. borders the indian ocean
19
Q

8 marker reasons for uneven development in Tanzania

A
  1. physical
    kilimanjoro, tallest mountain in Africa
    serengeti, big five animals
    –> tourism
  2. economical
dodoma, new captial city, affect investment and trade
BUT it is located along the trans african highway, so we can argue that physical is more imporant
  3. historical
Dar es salaam was the historical captial, so it contains main industries
20
Q

8 marker how does trade affect Tanzania’s development?

A

:) creates jobs
:) boost economy (Tazania’s biggest export is gold)
:( trade trap (exports raw cotton but imports cars and computers)

21
Q

8 marker how does aid affect Tanzania’s development?

A

:) social development (500 million spent on health in 2013)
:( debt (38% of country’s GDP in 2022)
:( economic dependency (50 million spent on education)

:) Geita gold mine provides jobs for 3750 people

:( ethical costs: abuse, compensation paid to 71 people

23
Q

A

the transfer of money for profit

24
8 marker how does geopolitics affect Tanzania's development?
1 foreign policy and regional role it is a member of the SADC, which facilitates trade. However, it also meant Tanzania had to participate in a military intervention in Uganda, costing them $500 million 2 military power 42 tanks, but not a problem right now cause there is no war right now 3. lake dispute with Malawi threatens econoic potential as people can fish and export them for money
25
8 marker: technology and connectivity on Tazania's development
social: M-Kopa's pay as you go electricity systems economic: TV white spaces allow the tracking of rhinos in real time, benefitting disparity: 86% of rural areas lack internet access
26
suggest two outcomes of Tanzania's development
1. decreased fertility rate (increase in tertiary industry means children are no longer assets) 2. increaased life expectancy (increased tertiary, decreased jobs that are detrimental to health)
27
assess Tazania's management of rapid development ie now they have money-- what do they do with it?
1. top down bridge project across Indian Ocean--> city centre more accessible to cars 2. compulsory education attendance only 80% rural areas skip school, widen disparity 3. spent lots of GDP to prevent brain drain rural overlooked, widening disparity
