Developing Professional Capability Flashcards
What are the elements of Bloom’s Taxonomy from least to most complicated?
Knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, evaluation
Explain the 4 deliberate practice techniques
Interleaving - alternating between topics
Spaced practice - leaving more time between practice sessions to allow for some forgetting (increases challenge)
Elaboration - putting what you learn into your own words
Retrieval practice - practicing from memory and not just reviewing information (e.g., flashcards)
What are the six levels of Church’s Digital Taxonomy?
Remembering, understanding, applying, analysis, evaluating, creating
What are the 3 types of cognitive load?
Intrinsic - effort required based on content complexity
Extraneous - effort required based on how the content is presented
Germane - work learners put into building mental models in long term memory (practice, rehearsal)
What should TD professionals consider regarding learning technology requirements?
User experience Workplace context Accessibility IT regulations and processes Learning technology ecosystem architecture Reporting capabilities Delivery and access to devices
Describe the five main learning technology categories
Development - learning content creation, authoring
Delivery - accessing and delivery learning content
Management - admin tools
Social - sharing learning content and supporting learner discussion
Analysis - collect, store and analyze data
What is curation?
Purposeful collecting and sharing of information to address a clear organizational need
What is a learning ecosystem?
Connection of physical, social, technical and operational dimensions and applications that form an environment to support learning. A learning platform, often an LMS or LXP, generally serves as the home of the ecosystem.
What are the primary components of a learning ecosystem?
Formal Learning Talent management Performance support Social networking and collaboration Shared knowledge Access to experts
What three areas should TD professionals be aware of regarding organizational preferences for knowledge sharing?
Support of the orgs culture for sharing/transferring knowledge
Org strategy for how knowledge resources are used to support goals and objectives
Information systems available for disseminating knowledge
Describe the SECI knowledge management spiral
Process where knowledge goes from being tacit, to explicit, then tacit again (continually) as internalized knowledge is socialized, then externalized, combined with new experiences, then internalized again as the cycle repeats.
What are the three categories for how knowledge is shared, consumed and operationalized through organizations?
Peer to peer: informal, decentralized, one-to-one or many to many
Structured: formal, centralized, one-to-many
Reference sources: IT based, e.g., CMS, document repository
How can TD professionals ensure the validity and value of knowledge in the organization?
Formal review cycles which include SMEs
Establish methods for employees to contribute new knowledge
Ensure easy access to knowledge
What is the main difference between industrial and postindustrial leadership models?
Industrial models tended to see leadership traits as something a person was born with and that there were innate traits that leaders had. Post industrial generally does not see any one best way to be a leader, and that the best leadership skills are based on the situation/environment/people involved. Managers =/= leaders.
What are the three main elements of leadership as a process?
Clarify direction, establish alignment, garner commitment (DAC)
What are the four groups of coaching competencies established by the ICF?
Setting the foundation (coaching ethics, coaching agreement)
Co-creating the relationship (building trust)
Communicate effectively (active listening, powerful questions)
Facilitating learning and results (planning and goal setting, accountability and managing progress)
What are the 6 characteristics of adult learners?
Need to know > concerned with why they need to know something
self-concept > self directed as a learner
prior experience > use past experience as a resource for new learning
readiness to learn > comes from experience and current needs
orientation to learn > task or problem-centered
motivation > internal incentives, curiosity
Describe CONSTRUCTIVISM
Knowledge is gained through experience - how we learn on the job
Assimilation (incorporate new ideas with existing knowledge) + Accommodation (reframing existing beliefs in response to new ideas)
How we learn is influenced by the environment, past experience, culture, beliefs, etc.
Discover oriented
Describe COGNITIVISM
Internal - how people think; how we think influences behavior
Retrieval (recall) vs rehearsal (visualization)
Helps to identify best conditions to support learning
How information is processed > stored > retrieved/used
Perceptual skills, memory, thinking
Describe BEHAVIORISM
Learning = strengthening stimuli and response associations
Operant conditioning - behavior is shaped through reward
Programmed learning
Focus on observable behavior and clear objectives, fluency of skills/knowledge
Action is more important that how someone thinks
What are the 6 steps of the ATD coaching process?
- Clarify the agreement
- Create a partnership
- Collect and analyze data
- Construct a development plan
- Collaborate and challenge
- Complete and acknowledge
