Develop the TEMP & Test Planning Flashcards
Purpose of Test & Evaluation (T&E)
reduce or manage risks in: development, acquisition, utilization
Why we test T&E
Required by Law (US Code 10) and DoD Policies
Provides an opportunity to identify problems early
Provides information about risk and risk mitigation
Assesses technical performance and system maturity
Provides indication of program’s development progress
Confirms weapon system meets technical requirements
Confirms weapon system readiness to enter IOT&E
Provides essential information on which to base acquisition decisions
Customers of T&E
Acquisition Managers
Design & Engineers
End-users
Logisticians

Regulation for Testing
AR 73-1
Define test
Program, procedure or process to obtain, verify, or provide data to determine the degree to which a system or systems meet, exceed or fail to meet stated capabilities.
Define evaluation
Independent process to review, analysis, and assessment of data obtained from testing used to project system performance under operational conditions.
Define operational effectiveness
Determine degree to which system performs its mission.
Define operational suitability
Determine degree to which system is supportable in its intended environment
Purpose of Live Fire Testing
- Determines crew survivability and/or system vulnerability
- Confirms lethality of munitions/missiles against intended target set
- Mandated by FY87 Defense Authorization Bill
When Does Live Fire Testing apply
Applies to all:
- ACAT I and II major vehicles and weapons platforms - Conventional weapons that provide some degree of protection - Major munitions greater than 1M rounds
Define interoperability
The ability of systems, units, or forces to provide data, information, materiel, and services to and accept the same from other systems, units, or forces and to use the data, information, materiel, and services so exchanged to enable them to operate effectively together.
