determining blood clotting time Flashcards
Lee White method?
pour 1-2 ml blood in tube
tilt the tubes at intervals of three minutes to see if the blood coagulates
what is blood clotting time?
the time elapsed from the beginning of blood sampling to the appearance of the first fibrin thread.
what is hemostasis?
to prevent/ stop the bleeding
what are the three steps of hemostasis?
- vascular reaction
- thrombocyte reaction
- thrombolysis
what can the blood clotting time inform us about?
the presence and activity of thrombocytes (platelets) and clotting factors (fibrinogen)
in which 2 ways the blood clotting time will be examined in the course?
on the basis of the appearance of the first fibrin thread and using the Lee White method
how can you examine the blood clotting time by the appearance of the first fibrin thread?
drip some blood onto a watch glass.
at intervals of 30 seconds draw a thin glass rod through the blood to see if there is an appearance of the first fibrin thread
why do we need to check the blood clotting time also at water bath in 37-degree celsius?
since the velocity of enzymatic reactions is highest at body temp. blood clotting time is longer at room temp.
which test tube should be used for the lee white method
Wasserman tube
