What was détente?
A
A period of comparative reduction in tension in superpower relations that took place from the late 60s throughout the 70s.

What does MAD stand for and what is it?
A
MAD - Mutually Assured Destruction. It meant that if the US and USSR ever went to war, everyone would be destroyed, without a clear winner. This was a big reason as to why neither country launched nukes at the other.
