High carbon materials include concrete, steel and aluminium.
What is ADB?
ADB stands for Approved Document B, and outlines the minimum requirements for the design, construction, and maintenance of buildings in accordance with part B of the Building Regulations.
Are there other ways to meet building regs other than through the approved documents?
Yes, for example an engineered solution for a cladding system, where a PAS9980 is obtained.
When would solid walls require insulation? What would you suggest?
Under Part L of the Building Regulations they require thermal improvement when works are being undertaken to over 25% of the external wall, then thermal upgrades are required.
I would advise insulating plasterboard be installed to the internal walls.
What is the difference between a VCL and a breather membrane? Where would they be found?
A VCL is to prevent moisture form within a building passing through a wall construction and causing interstitial condensation. A breather should is to prevent moisture from getting into a building. but does allow vapour to escape.
