When would solid walls require insulation? What would you suggest?

A

Under Part L of the Building Regulations they require thermal improvement when works are being undertaken to over 25% of the external wall, then thermal upgrades are required.

I would advise insulating plasterboard be installed to the internal walls.

What is the difference between a VCL and a breather membrane? Where would they be found?

A

A VCL is to prevent moisture form within a building passing through a wall construction and causing interstitial condensation. A breather should is to prevent moisture from getting into a building. but does allow vapour to escape.
