Pattern
Repetition of visuals, different units repeating in a rhythm
Balance
One difference that being subtle or strong that balances out the piece, such as two swirls on each side and the other side resembling a swirl giving it balance. Symmetry and asymmetry balance exist.
Figure-ground
ambiguous, free to interpretation. Legibility. The relationship between shape, object or type and it’s background. Subtle or camouflaged.
Contrast
vocal point, contrasting, black against white
Hierarchy
In order which things are read first due to the focal point by design including shape, scale, colour.
cropping
cutting of a component by its frame or format, cutting beyond edge of the frame. Composition out of frame.
Proportion
height to width, tall, thin, large vs small, large vs thin, wide.
Scale
size variations between type forms, shapes ect.. creating hierarchy and depth.
