Design Principles Flashcards
What are the 8 principles of design? (Tip: BUMP/S CHER)
Balance, unity, movement, proportion/scale, contrast, harmony, emphasis, rhythm
Describe balance with:
Symmetry, Asymmetry, radial symmetry (symmetry with a round axis, e.g; a starfish or flower) , vertical, horizontal, visual aesthetic balance, uneas
Describe unity with:
**Connected, contained, not disjointed, a whole feel. - a single colour or maybe a texture, Something that connects the whole design together **
Describe movement with:
When the design allows the veiw era eyes to visually explore the design, when a design draws the viewers eyes to certain places
Describe proportion/scale with:
Perspective, layering, Comparison (Compare size & scale of elements in proportion to each other)
Describe harmony with:
Aesthetically pleasing throughout design, connections (like shapes that fit like a puzzle)
Describe emphasis with:
Draws attention, Dominant focal point, subdominant focus (secondary) ,** sub ordinate** (least focus)
Describe rhythm with:
Repetition of elements, regular rhythm, irregular rhythm, flowing rhythm, creates pattern
