What are key features of modernism
Form follows function, the aesthetics of a product is dictaded by the way it works.
Embracing the machine age, bauhaus was similar to the arts and crafts movement in that it rebelled agaist ornamentation of designs but differs in that the machines allowed for better finishes
Geometrically pure, inspired by art deco
Everyday products for everyday people, producing products everyone can afford, products designed for easy mass production
What are the key features of post-modernism
Bold and colourful playful designs, memphis designs challenged the simplicity of modernism and often used a range of colours as wll as contrasting colours
Simplistic juxtaposition of geometric forms, memphis used geometric forms but the position of these could seem quite random
Challenging forms that often compromised on function
