Description terminology Flashcards
Echotexture
echo consistency of the organ or structure
Homogenous
Smooth and uniform
Heterogenous
coarse or inconsistent
Echogenicity
a measure of how many and how strong the echoes are - how white or black the reflection is
Echogenic
lots of echoes, bright white
Anechoic
-no echoes, black usually fluid filled such as the bladder or cyst
- can be associated with posterior enhancement WHEN there is an anechoic interior and then bright strong echoes deep to it
Hyperechoic
high levels of echoes, similar to echogenic, generally used in relation to the surrounding tissue
Isoechoic
similar echoes to the surrounding tissues, the same
what do you use to describe a simple cyst?
are the walls smooth, regular, thin?
anechoic interior & posterior enhancement
what do you use to describe a complex cyst?
are the walls irregular and/or thick?
is there debris, septations, or fluid levels?
it may or may not display posterior acoustic enhancement
what do you use to describe a solid appearance?
are the margins well or poorly defined? are the margins smooth or irregular? are the margins lobulated, spiculated or angulated?
does it shadow or enhance posteriorly? is it vascular? what does the surrounding tissue look like?
