Cause of earthquakes

• When two moving plates along a boundary creates friction and get locks, stress builds up on the rocks along the fault line.
• When rocks can no longer withstand the increasing stress, they slip along the fault, releasing stored energy in the form of seismic waves from the focus, causing ground vibrations.

• Can occur at divergent, convergent, and transform plate boundaries.
