Describing motion along a line Flashcards
1
Q
Describe the difference between distance and displacement
A
Distance is a scalar quantity it is just how far an object has moved.
Displacement is a vector quantity it measures the distance and direction in a straight line from an objects starting point to its finishing point
2
Q
What is equation for speed ?
A
Speed = distance / time
3
Q
Describe the difference between speed and velocity
A
Speed is just how fast you’re going.
Velocity is speed in a given direction e.g. 30mph north or 20m/s to the right.
4
Q
What is the equation for acceleration ?
A
Acceleration = change in velocity / time
