DESCRIBING DISTRIBUTION Flashcards
What are the four ways to describe the distribution?
- Frequency distribution
- Frequency polygon
- Measures of variability
- Standardized scores
What is Frequency distribution?
It is tabulation of scores. It is used to show how frequent the scores will fall in range of values. The distribution can also be ascending or descending.
What is Frequency polygon?
It describes the skewness, kurtorsis, normal curve and measures of central tendency
It is the measurement of symmetry of distribution
Skewness
What are the two kinds/types of skewness?
Positive skewness and negative skewness
It is the right shaped
The mean > median > mode
Positive skewness
It is left shaped
Negative skewness
It tells about if the tailed is heavy or light
Kurtosis
What are the three kinds of kurosis?
Platykurtic, Leptokurtic and Mesokurtic
Wide type of kurtosis
Platykurtic
Peak type of kurtosis
Leptokurtic
It is the normal kurtosis
Mesokurtic
What are the three measures of central tendency?
Mean, median and mode
It is the average of scores
Mean
It is the half score or 50% of the score
Median
It is the repetitive scores in a set
Mode
What are the three measures of variability?
Range, Quartile Deviation, Standard Deviation
It is the difference of two extreme Highest minus lowest
Range
It measures the spread or dispersion
Quartile Deviation (semi -interquartile range)
Formula of quartile deviation
Q3 - Q1/2
It is the square root of variance
Standard deviation
If the SD is O it means
It same with the mean
If the SD is greater than 0
It means mas okay
If the SD is less than 0
It means masyadong malapit sa mean
What are the three types of standardized scores?
Individual score, Linear standard score and normalized standard scores
It is under the individual score which is the percentage of the below interest score
Percentile score/rank
What are the two types of linear standard scores?
Z scores and T scores
It is under the linear standard score which is a deviation of the score from the mean in a standard deviation units
Z scores
It is normalized standardized scores which has SD of 10 and mean of 50
T scores
What are the two types of standardized scores?
Stanine and sten
It is a standard nine which has mean of 5 and SD of 2
Stanine
It is a score of individual approximate position
Sten
