Dermopathophysiology Flashcards
What are the layers of the skin?
Epidermis and Dermis. The hypodermis is not part of the skin
What are the 5 layers of the epidermis
Deep to superficial:
- Basale ( mitotic, melanocytes)
- Spinosum

- Lucidium ( only in hands, feet)
- Corneum
What type of epithelial tissue is the epidermis made of
keratinized, stratified squamos
How does the epidermis gets its blood supply?
by diffusion from the dermis layer of skin
What type of tissue is the Dermis?
Connective
2 layers of dermis
- Papillary ( closer to epidermis)
2. Reticular
What is found in dermis?
- dermal papillae ridges
2. sweat glands, hair follicles, blood vessels, touch receptors, etc.
Macule vs. Patch
skin lesions that are flat and discolored. Macule is < 1 cm and Patch is > 1 cm
A birthmark is an example of a macule
Papule vs. Plaque
Skin lesions that are elevated. Papule is < 1 cm and Plaque is > 1 cm
Nodule vs. Plaque
Skin lesions that are elevated and > 1 cm. Nodule are deep with spherical edge and Plaque is NOT
Vesicles vs. Bullae
Skin lesions that are elevated and fluid filled. Vesicle is < 1 cm and Bullae is > 1 cm
Pustule
Puss-filled lesion of variable size.
A pimple is an example
Wheal
A hive. transient, elevated lesion with erythema & pruritis
Erythema
