Dermatology - Benign + malignant tumours Flashcards
Solar keratoses
Likelihood of solar keratoses developing to SCC?
Pretty much only slightly higher than normal skin!
Solar keratoses
Do have dysplastic changes
Solar keratoses which has been treated with field treatment (imiquimod/5-flurouracil) - unsightly + uncomfy for a few weeks
Bowen’s disease
Seborrheic keratosis
‘Stuck on’ brown with granular/wart-like surface
Seborrheic keratoses
BCC
BCC
BCC
BCC
Bleeding/ulcerated BCC
BCC - large
Lots of BCC
How to treat flat BCC?
Field treatment (imiquimod or 5-fluorouracil cream)
OR photodynamic therapy
Amelanotic melanoma
Very similar appearance to BCC and metastasis
How to differentiate solar keratosis or Bowen’s
SK - small, ill-defined, sun exposed site
Bowens: >10mm, well circumscribed
Pearly edge - BCC
Smooth red plaque, some erosion in old man - BCC
Chondrodermatitis
Benign
Epidermoid cyst (cheesy filling). Benign.
Dermatofibroma
FIRM feel, flat or slightly raised
Can look like a lot of things but firmness is key
Raised mole. Same texture (not shiny or rough).
Nodular BCC - skin coloured but shiny, translucent lesions
May have telangiectasia
Slow growing + do not metastasize
SCC - dull rough surface
not shiny + no telangiectasia
Keratoacanthoma
Skin coloured papula, central keratin plug which grows.
Keratocanthoma
Completely full of keratin plug
What are lentigines?
Common benign brown spots ‘sun spots’
Dark lentigo on the lip
Risk fx for melanoma
UV exposure
Total number of moles
Family hx of melanoma or other skin cancer
Red hair/blue eyes
Features of melanoma
Odd duckling mole
Strange shape
Multicoloured >3 colours
Black
Change, bleeding
Melanoma
Melanoma
Diff dx for dark lesions
Naevi, BCC, Melanoma, dermatofibromas
