Describe the features of Keratoacanthoma

A
  • Low grade squamous cell carcinoma
  • KA is commonly found on sun-exposed skin, and often is seen on the face, forearms and hands.
  • Biopsy may be indistinguishable from SCCa, except for the abscence of epithelial membrane antigen
  • Biopsy must include tumor junction and adjacent normal tissue
  • Central keratinous core, epidermal lip
  • Considered benign, but has explosive growth for 2-4 wks
  • Central crater filled with keratin plug
  • Usually resolve if untreated
  • Can also inject 5-FU or methotrexate
