defined the Koebner phenomenon
This is the appearance of a skin lesion along the site of an injury.
Ex: someone with previously diagnosed psoriasis may develop a plaque in the scar area after a surgical procedure.
AKA- isomorphic response
define morbilliform rash
A rash that looks like measles. Erythematous macular lesions, usually 2-10 mm. May be confluent in some areas.
Some sources say 3-5 mm, maculopapular
define scarlatiniform rash
innumerable small red papules, distribution- wide, diffuse
What are other names for a bulls eye lesion?
iris or target
Define guttate lesions
Lesions that appear as though someone took a dropper and dropped the lesion onto the skin
What are the 5 P’s of lichen planus?
- pruritic
- papules
- purple
- polygonal
- planar (flat)
(lacey white patches if oral mucosa is involved)
describe the Tzanck smear
- used to dx vesicular/bullous dermatoses
- vesicle is unroofed and floor scraped w/spatula (not cotton swab!)
- smeared onto slide, allowed to air dry, then fixed
- to lab -> multinucleated giant cells + for HSV, VZV
- cannot distinguish between HSV and VZV
