Q

Mometasone

A

topical corticosteroid

antiinflammatory antiasthmatic

use: maintenance for asthma, rhinitis, nasal polyps
how: induces phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins and inhibits the release of arachidonic acid, therefore inhibiting protaglandins and leukotrienes.. reduce inflammation of the airway and improve pulmonary function
ci: hypersensitivity

Q

Isotretinoin

A

retinoid

use: acne
how: synthetic retinoid which reduces sebaceous gland size and sebum production, also regulates cell proliferation and differentiation
ci: pregnancy X, lactation
interactions: additive toxicity with Vitamin A or derivatives, decreased efficacy of midrodosed progesterone - use 2 forms of contraception, may increase risk of bone loss with phenytoin, may increase risk of osteoporosis with systemic corticosteroids
se: cheilitis (lip inflammation), conjunctivitis, increased ESR, increased TG, decreased HDL, increased LFT, thinning hair, increased platelet cost, prurtitis, epistaxis, skin fragility, dry nose, joint pain

A

anti fungal, allylamine drug

use: dermatophytosis, onychomycosi of nails, tinea capitis
how: inhibits squalene epoxidase and causes fungal cell death due to increased membrane permeability
ci: hypersensitivity, liver disease, renal disease, lactation
interactions: increased hepatotoxicity with other hepatotoxic drugs, increase effect of SSRI, b blockers, MAOI, warfarin
se: elevator liver function tests, GI disturbances, anorexia, diarrhea, vomiting
