Warnings of topical or oral antibiotic?

A

Topical:
- Don’t prescribe in hypersensitivity.
- Caution in IBD, atopic conditions, or abx-associated colitis.
- If diarrhoea occurs, stop medication.
- use in pregnancy if needed.

Oral:
- Avoid in hypersensitivity.
- Most tetracyclines are contraindicated in pregnancy, breastfeeding, and children age <12.
- Avoid tetracyclines in myasthenia gravis, SLE, hepatic and renal impairment.

Topical abx should be prescribed with benzoyl peroxide due to risk of abx resistance.
