Hydrocortisone
A
- steroid
- used to dermatitis, psoriasis
- adverse effects= atrophy/thinning of skin (collagen), stretch marks, telangiectasias, cataract or glaucoma if applied near eye
- systemically affects HPA axis –> growth retardation
- seven classes (I is the strongest)

cyclosporine
A
- immunosuppressant
- used to treat psoriasis (inflamm conditions)
- HTN, kidney damage if long-term use

Methotrexate
A
- folate analog –> inhibits DHFR –> inhibits cell division; also has some immunosuppressant activity
- psoriasis and other inflamm conditions
- hepatotoxicity develops slowly (need to monitor LFTS), pulmonary toxicity can develop quickly

Biologics
A
- block TNF-alpha
- arthritis (rheumatoid and psoriatic) and othe rinflamm conditions
- may halt disease progression

UV light therapy
A
- immunosuppression of T cells
- inflamm conditions: atopic dermatitis, lichen planus, psoriasis
- usually with psoralens (photosensitizing agents that increase efficacy)

Isotretinoin (accutane)
A
- retinoid
- stimulate epithelial cell turnover; also anti-inflammmatory
- acne
- teratogenic affects (washes out in 3 weeks)

Acitretin (Soriatane)
A
- Retinoid
- stimulate epi cell turnover; also anti-inflammatory
- psoriasis
- teratogenic effects (stays in fat stores for 3 years!)
