What are the DSM-5 categories of depression
A
- major depressive disorder (sever, short term)
- persistent depressive disorder (long term, reoccurring, sustained major)
- disruptive mood dysregulation disorder (childhood temper tantrums)
- premenstrual dysphoric disorder (disruption to mood prior/during menstruation)

What are the behavioural characteristics of depression
A
- activity levels (more often than not, reduced levels of energy, making them lethargic, some cases can lead to opposite effect, psychomotor agitation)
- disruption to sleep and eating behaviour (insomnia or hypersomnia- need for sleep)
- aggression and self harm

What are the emotional characteristics of depression
A
- lowered mood
- anger
- lowered self esteem

What are the cognitive characteristics of depression
A
- poor concentration
- attending/dwelling on the negative
- absolutist thinking (black and white thinking)
