  • significant distress and dysfunction
  • cannot be influenced by substance abuse or other conditions

A
  • 70% will have a full recovery with correct treatment
  • affects people in different ways - mild-severe
  • can be caused by big changes such as bereavement or losing job, but also may not have a cause
  • different types of depression including postnatal depression (PND) and seasonal affective disorder (SAD)
  • difficult to diagnose as people can easily hide how they are feeling
  • different treatments will work for different people - recovery and suitability
