What are 5 symptoms of depression?
A
low mood, anhedonia (loss of interest in things once enjoyed), fatigue, feeling worthless, sleep disturbance, weight gain/loss, psychomotor retardation (slow thoughts and movements), suicidal thoughts

Factors affecting diagnosis?
A
- 5 or more present for at least 2 weeks
- significant distress and dysfunction
- cannot be influenced by substance abuse or other conditions

What are 6 features of depression?
A
- 70% will have a full recovery with correct treatment
- affects people in different ways - mild-severe
- can be caused by big changes such as bereavement or losing job, but also may not have a cause
- different types of depression including postnatal depression (PND) and seasonal affective disorder (SAD)
- difficult to diagnose as people can easily hide how they are feeling
- different treatments will work for different people - recovery and suitability
