Q

Delta formation

A

As the water and suspended sediment slow (due to entering a large body of water), the competence and capacity of the river are reduced, leading to deposition of the river material. This can build up over time and form a delta which reaches the surface of the lake or ocean.

Q

How to levees form?

A

When rivers flood they deposit the largest and heaviest material first as there is not enough energy to keep them in suspension. These build up over multiple flood events to form levees, which are banks alongside the river channel made up of deposited material.
