With their first aid kits
What is the approximate shelf life of the Narcan Nasal Spray?
2 years
What are the signs of opioid overdose?
ALOC; constricted pupils; slow and shallow breathing (or arrest); cool, pale and clammy skin; slow pulse (or arrest)
If patient is not breathing and is unresponsive, what must be started before administering Narcan?
CPR, then administer Narcan when possible
Once patient is breathing adequately, move patient to what position for recovery?
Left lateral recumbent position
How long does Narcan Spray take to start working?
3-5 minutes
When should a second dose of Narcan Spray be administered?
If the patient does not respond to the first dose within 3-5 minutes
Prior to administering a second dose of Narcan Spray, what must personnel ensure?
that fire/paramedics are en route
Narcan Spray shall only be administered to whom?
adults and children
Narcan Spray shall not be administered to whom?
Infants (under one year of age)
If the ALOC is not opioid-related, will Narcan cause any significant side effects?
No

Yes, if properly trained

• Paramedics (verbally)

Does Narcan Spray require a prescription in order to purchase it?
No, it is an OTC drug
Once a deputy has initiated medical care, he must continue until:
• the scene becomes unsafe
• physical exhaustion
• deputy is relieved by someone with equal or higher level of medical training
• the person revives
