Heterodonty
Having two successive sets of teeth: deciduous and permanent.
Diphyodont
Short-crowned teeth with enamel restricted to the crown.
Brachydont
Long-crowned teeth; enamel extends below gumline.
Hypsodont
Teeth with rounded cusps, as in pigs.
Bunodont
Teeth with crescent-shaped ridges, seen in ruminants.
Selenodont
Teeth with transverse ridges, typical of horses.
Lophodont
Natural gap between incisors and cheek teeth
Diastema
Rudimentary first premolar in horses.
Wolf Tooth
Shearing teeth in carnivores: last upper premolar and first lower molar.
Carnassial Teeth
Exposed part of the tooth above the gumline.
Tooth Crown
Part of the tooth embedded in the jawbone.
Root
Junction between the crown and root.
Neck
Hardest substance in the body, covers the crown in brachydont teeth and entire tooth in hypsodont teeth.
Enamel
Covers the root in brachydont teeth and both crown and root in hypsodont teeth.
Cementum
Main structure of the tooth, surrounds the pulp cavity.
Dentine
Central chamber of the tooth housing nerves and blood vessels.
Pulp Cavity
Tough structure replacing upper incisors and canines in ruminants.
Dental Pad
Filing of sharp enamel edges on horse cheek teeth.
Floating
