Dental composites and Adhesive dent. Flashcards
attraction between unlike molecules, attraction between two
contacting surfaces
Adhesion-
joining two materials by means of an adhesive
Adhesive Bonding:
Does dental bonding happen via mechanical, physical, or chemical bonding?
Mechanical
Is bond strength higher on occlusal or cervical of tooth?
Occlusal
Is enamel bonding or dentin bonding stronger?
Enamel
excess water leads to poor hybrid layer formation
Underdried-
demineralized zone is too thick and primer cannot fully penetrate
Overetching-
collapses collagen
Overdrying-
Definition: a physical mixture of 2 or more materials
with superior properties as compared to the
individual components.
Composite
- Prevents spontaneous polymerization when dispensed
- Slows polymerization from room light exposure
Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT)
- Many uses
- Splint, retainer, trauma stabilization
- Operative: Fiber reinforced composite restoration
- Claims to mitigate negative effects of C-factor
- Reduces shrinkage
- Reinforces structurally compromised teeth
- Place adhesive, cure, place flowable onto floor and place wetted ribbond piece into flowable
Ribbond
- Used as pulp capping material (vital pulp therapy)
- Manufacturer says it can be used as restorative material
Biodentine
- Bulk Fill, Fluoride releasing, Glass hybrid
- 8 shades available from supplier
- Available in UMKC clinic
- Does not require etching nor bonding
- Capsule- tap, push plunger, triturate (10 sec)
- Place in dispenser, click twice, dispense in prep
Equi forte
- One tiny step beyond a sealant
- May even PRR small area (pit) and seal the remaining occlusal surface
- The carious lesion has STARTED but not progressed into dentin
PRR
- Use etch to “chemically drill”
- ◦ 15% hydrochloric acid gel
- ◦ etch for 2 minutes
- ◦ up to three times
- Infiltrate with Icon® resin
- Indicated for Smooth surface lesions
- ◦ very good for small white spot lesions after ortho treatment
Resin infiltration
