Small Caries
Started into DEJ
Moderate Caries
Started into dentin
Extensive Caries
Going toward pulp. Pulp is forming repairative dentin.
Rapidly invading, softer caries (nursing bottle, radiation, meth, mtn dew)
Rampant Caries
Slow, long standing, dark color caries (remineralization chance)
Chronic Caries
Non-progressive caries; smooth and polished
Arrested Caries
Caries under preexisting faulty restoration
Recurrent/Secondary Caries
Class 1 Caries
Pits and fissures
Class II Caries
Proximal surfaces of posteriors (smooth surface)
Class III Caries
Proximal surfaces of anteriors
Class IV Caries
Proximal surfaces and incisal edge of anteriors
Class V
Gingival/Cervical third of the facial/lingual surfaces
Class VI
Incisal edges of anterior teeth or cusp tips of posterior teeth
Conservation of tooth structure. Location and extent of carious legion. Position of pit and fissure dictate.
