Dental Anomalies in Children Flashcards
1
Q
What are the 3 stages of amelogenesis?
A
- Secretory: ameloblasts secrete the thickness of enamel
- Transition
- Maturation: ameloblasts allow inorganic ions to be secreted and exchanged
2
Q
Is hypoplastic, hypomaturation or hypocalcified the most common AI?
A
Hypoplastic: reduced enamel thickness due to mutation in the formation of the normal matrix
3
Q
What information do we need to diagnose dental anomalies in children?
A
- Family History
- MH
- Clinical observations
- Radiographs
- Histology
4
Q
What are two other dental features associated with AI?
A
- AOB
- Taurodontism
5
Q
How is AI managed?
A
- Reinforce good OH
- Relieve symptoms (sensitivity, rapid wear, poor aesthetics)
- Fluoride mouthwash and toothpaste prescribed
- Direct or Indirect composite veneers to improve aesthetics, reduced sensitivity and incisal wear
- Bleaching indicated if enamel is intact but discoloured
