Q

What is the initiation stage?

A

The oral epithelium gives rise to the dental lamina which is adjacent to the etcomesenchyme
This occurs 6-7 weeks in utero

Q

What is the bud stage?

A

The dental lamina proliferates or grows into a bud shape penetrating the ectomesenchyme
This occurs in the 8th week in utero

Q

What is the cap stage?

A

The dental lamina continues to grow and differentiate into a cap like structure called the enamel organ
This cap like structure surrounds ectomesenchyme that has differentiated into the dental papilla and the dental sac or follicle.
This occurs during the 9th-10th week in utero

Q

What is the bell stage?

A

Differentiation of the enamel organ into a bell shape with 4 cell types within it.
The cells in the dental papilla differentiate into 2 cell types
This occurs during the 11th-12th weeks in utero

Q

What is the apposition stage?

A

Dental tissue types (enamel, dentin and cementum) are secreted in successive layers
These tissue types are initially secreted as a matrix, which is an extracellular substance that is partially calcified yet serves as a framework for later calcification.

Q

What s the maturation stage?

A

Dental tissue types fully mineralize to mature form

The time period of these 2 final stages varies according to the tooth involved but usually occurs 4-5 months in utero.
