Q

How do you find the density of a regular solid? (Required practical)

A
  1. Measure the mass of your object, using a balance, making sure your balance reads zero before you place your object on it.
  2. Find the volume by measuring it’s dimensions, then substitute into the equation to calculate volume. (volume=length x width x height)
  3. Substitute these values into your density equation.

Q

How do you find the density of an irregular object? (Required practical)

A
  1. Measure the mass of your object, using a balance, making sure your balance reads zero before you place your object on it.
  2. To find its volume, tie some strong around your object, and lower it into a displacement beaker, finding the volume by the amount of water displaced/rise in water level.
  3. Substitute these values into your density equation.

Q

How do you find the density of a liquid? (Required practical)

A
  1. Use a measuring cylinder to find the volume of your liquid.
  2. Measure the mass of an empty beaker using a balance.
  3. Remove the beaker and pour the liquid from the measuring cylinder into the beaker.
  4. Use the balance to measure the total mass of the beaker and the liquid, then subtract the mass of the beaker from this.
  5. Substitute your values into the density equation.
