Density Flashcards
1
Q
What is density?
A
- Measure of compactness
2
Q
Formula for density:
A
Density (kg/m^3) = mass (kg) / volume (m^3)
3
Q
What would happen if you compress a less dense material?
A
- Density stays the same
- Volume decreases
4
Q
How do you find the density of a solid object?
A
- Use balance to measure mass
- Put it in eureka can filled with water
- Water displaced will transfer to measuring cylinder
- Record volume
- Use formula
5
Q
How do you find the density of a liquid object?
A
- Measuring cylinder on balance and measure zero
- Pour 10ml into cylinder and record mass
- Pour another 10ml into cylinder and record total volume and mass
- Repeat till cylinder is full
- For each measurement, use formula
- Take average
6
Q
How can you tell from the density if an object will float or not?
A
- Lower than water, will float
