what is Dengue
Dengue is a viral infection transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes
what is the etiology causative agent?
Dengue virus (DENV), which has four distinct serotypes (DENV-1, DENV2, DENV-3, and DENV-4)
what is the incubation period?
The incubation period ranges from 4 to 10 days after the bite of an infected mosquito
what is the communicability period?
usually 3–5 days.
Mode of transmission
Transmission through the mosquito bite
Assessment (signs & symptoms)
● high fever
● Headache
● Rash
● muscle and joint pain
Laboratory & Diagnostic Tests:
● Virological test
● Serological test
Nursing Management:
● monitoring vital signs
● maintaining fluid balance
● managing pain and fever
Medical Treatment:
Acetaminophen (paracetamol)
There is a vaccine called Dengvaxia
Prevention:
● avoiding mosquito bites through the use of insect repellent
● Community efforts to control mosquito populations
● wearing long-sleeved clothing
Complications:
● Haemorrhagic complications
● Severe shock
● Fluid overload
