Two main ways MSPs do work on behalf of their constituencies
They do work in the Parliament - Committees and Full Plenary
The work they do in their Constituency or Region.
What is the impact of newspapers and televisions
Tabloids:-
•smaller sized papers such as The Sun and Daily Record
•concentrate on human-interest stories
•do not usually give much space to political issues
•very influential.
Broadsheets:-
•larger sized papers with smaller writing
•to do more about politics
•not biased
•gives both sides of the argument
P.E.E of debates (members bill)
P- the work of an MSP includes debating.
E- MSPs represent our views by taking part in debates in parliament.
E- an example is alcohol minimum pricing.
What are the reserved matters?
- defence and National Security
- employment
- social Security
- constitution

P- Members bills is an example of work if an MSP
E- MSP’s vote ‘for’ or ‘against’ new laws that have been proposed or amendments.
E- an example is that MSP’s recently voted for 16/17 year olds right to vote.

E- each MSP had the right to introduce a Members Bill
E- an example of this is the Disabled Persons Parking act 2009.
The work an MSP might do in the Consituency
- mass media
- hold a surgery
- attend local meeting
- fact finding visits
P.EE of an advantage of AMS
P- an advantage of AMS is that Women and ethnic minorities are better represented.
E- this is because parties draw up a list of representatives based on merit.
E- for example woman have benefited as 45 out of 129 MSPs are female.
An advantage of AMS
P- an advantage of AMS is that smaller groups benefit from it.
E-Smaller parties would not be able to have any seats as most votes are given to the larger parties.
E- an example of this is the Green Party had two MSPs.
