A

Age, sex, head trauma, smoking, genetics

22
Q

Pathophysiology of Parkinsons

A

Gradual loss of cells in substantia nigra. Dopamine transmits signals between two regions of the brain.

A

Tremor, bradykinesia, impaired posture, loss of automatic movements. Triad: rigidity, bradykinesia and tremor.

24
Q

Course of Parkinsons

A

Progress to more intense and debilitating.

25
Q

Management of Parkinsons

A

Levodopa- can cross BBB. Controls symptoms by increasing dopamine.

26
Q

Risk factors for Mixed dementia

A

Age, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, smoking, obesity.

27
Q

Pathophysiology of MD

A

Several types of dementia contribute

28
Q

Symptoms of MD

A

Damage or loss of nerve cells and connections.

29
Q

Course of MD

A

10 years following diagnosis.
